Ellyse Victoria "Ellie" Creeley (born February 9, 1988) is an American actress and voice actress. She is best known for her roles as Jules in Superbad (2007), Leah in Juno (2007), Katherine in 50/50 (2011), and Beca in Pitch Perfect (2012). She is also known for her voice work. Her notable voiceover roles include Young Kiara in The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride (1998), Rose / Huntsgirl in American Dragon: Jake Long, Katara in Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Aerith Gainsborough in various Final Fantasy titles.

early life
Creeley was born in Torrance, California and raised in Palos Verdes Estates, California. She is the daughter of Marianne (née McKinney), a pediatrician, and Daniel Creeley, a biomedical engineer. Her brother, Ben Creeley, is three years younger and also an actor. Creeley is of Irish, Scottish, and English descent.

At the age of 4, Creeley began taking acting and singing lessons and attending theater camps, mainly through Norris Center for the Performing Arts in Rolling Hills, California. Prior to enrolling her in acting classes, her parents were often urged by family members and friends to put her in theater or find her an agent due to her tendency to imitate television commercials and movie scenes for home videos. Creeley's parents ultimately decided that they did not want to expose their daughter to Hollywood at too young of an age and instead let her pursue acting as an extracurricular activity until she grew older.

Creeley attended Palos Verdes High School and graduated in 2006. She was a member of the school's surf team and numerous student organizations, such as Thespian Club and Science National Honors Society. She described herself as "very academically focused and very Type A" and "a complete overachiever" in high school. Despite her dedication to her education, she declined her college admissions and instead concentrated on her acting career. Before committing to acting full-time, Creeley held a few other jobs, such as babysitting and retail sales while in high school.

career
1997-2006: Early career

Creeley started her career in the entertainment industry as a voice actress. Her first major voiceover role was that of Ashley 'Ashley Q' Quinlan in the Walt Disney animated TV series Recess. She also provided the voice for Ashley 'Ashley T' Tomassian in the show's first season, as well as various background characters throughout the series. She and her parents learned about voiceover auditions by word of mouth from the families of her peers enrolled in her acting classes. Though Creeley's parents were still concerned about allowing her to work professionally at a young age, they decided to let her try out for roles and later continue with voice acting, which they viewed as potentially less harmful and taxing than screen acting. It was also an ideal field for Creeley because it allowed her to remain in traditional schooling while working professionally. She booked more voiceover roles through her adolescence, including Young Kiara in The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, Lucy Van Pelt in A Charlie Brown Valentine, various characters in Lloyd in Space and Fillmore!, Britney in Totally Spies, Rose / Huntsgirl in American Dragon: Jake Long, and Katara in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Her work as Katara is arguably her most recognized in her voiceover career, and she has stated that she feels "immensely honored to have been a part of such an incredible series with such a huge, dedicated fanbase."

Though she was passionate about her voice work and theater, Creeley has stated that she did not expect to pursue a full-time acting career after high school. Growing up, she had always envisioned herself working in a scientific or medical field, like her parents. Regarding her changing interests, she said, "I was a junior in high school and fairly certain that I wanted to go to Stanford or Harvard or UCLA or somewhere to study biology, but I wasn't 100% sure. So I started going out for screen roles, just to see if I was missing out on something that could potentially be life-changing, and it absolutely was." She has also cited her brother's steady work in onscreen acting as a big influence on her decision. The first screen role Creeley landed was a guest role in a 2006 episode of Nickelodeon's Drake & Josh, and she subsequently had guest roles on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, Malcolm in the Middle, and Phil of the Future.

2007-2011: Transition to film

Creeley made her feature film debut in the 2007 teen comedy Superbad. She portrayed the love interest of one of the film's lead characters, Seth. Later that year, she also appeared in the comedy-drama Juno, playing the titular character's best friend, Leah. Both films were critically acclaimed, and her performances in them helped launch her primarily comedy focused screen career.

In 2008, Creeley appeared in The House Bunny, in which she portrayed Natalie, a nerdy sorority president. She also began voicing Kitty Pryde / Shadowcat on the Nicktoons' animated series Wolverine and the X-Men, as well as Aerith Gainsborough in the English language version of Square Enix's Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, a role she reprised for the English language version of 2011's Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy. In 2009, Creeley had small roles in New York, I Love You and Shorts.

Creeley appeared in 2010's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, a film adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, as Stacey Pilgrim, the lead character's younger sister. She also had a cameo role in 2011's Scream 4 and co-starred in the comedy-drama 50/50. She portrayed Katherine, a young and inexperienced therapist, and credits the film for giving her some of her first experiences working in drama In addition, Creeley began voicing Barbara Gordon / Batgirl, a recurring character on Cartoon Network's Young Justice.

2012-present: Breakthrough

In 2012, Creeley starred in Pitch Perfect as Beca Mitchell, a rebellious college freshman who reluctantly joins her university's failing a cappella group. The film marked her first true lead role in a feature film. Creeley, who, along with much of the supporting cast, was tasked to sing and dance in the film, revealed that she nearly passed on auditioning for the role. Though she felt "way too nervous about doing so much singing for one project," she ultimately tried out for the role as a way to push herself because she is "always looking for a challenge" and considers herself "a little too competitive at almost everything." Creeley also appeared in the film adaptation of Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower as Candace Kelmeckis. She referred to this movie as "extremely special" and one of her favorites to work on due to the fact that her real life brother, Ben Creeley, portrayed her character's brother, main character Charlie. Also in 2012, Creeley provided her voice for Secret of the Wings, the fourth film in Disney's Tinker Bell series. She played a new fairy, Periwinkle, who possesses a winter talent and a mysterious connection to Tinker Bell.

In 2013, Creeley filmed a music video for "Cups," a song that appears on Pitch Perfect's soundtrack. After the movie's and the single's successes, Creeley has been adamant in claiming that she has no plans to pursue a singing career, but is happy with the reception she has received for her vocal performances. The song has since appeared on Billboard's Adult Pop Song chart as a No. 2 hit. Creeley also appeared in Don Jon, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, as the titular character's younger sister, Monica. Also in 2013, Creeley starred in the drama film Short Term 12 as Grace, a young supervisor at a foster care facility for at-risk teenagers. The film and Creeley's performance received wide critical acclaim and marked a breakthrough for her in the dramatic genre.

In 2014, Creeley starred in the indie dramedy Happy Christmas as Jenny. The film premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and featured completely improvised dialogue. She also appeared in her first action film, the reboot of Godzilla, as Elle Brody, and starred in the romantic comedy Two Night Stand as Megan. She will also star in the musical film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods as Cinderella.

Creeley will reprise her role as Beca Mitchell in 2015's Pitch Perfect 2. She is also set to star as Ma in Room, a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Emma Donoghue.
trivia ☆ Highly prefers Ellie to her full first name Ellyse, for no real reason other than she likes the way the former sounds more than the latter. Most everyone calls her by her nickname, aside from her parents and other older relatives if they ever give her the full name treatment, and her brother when he's being a pest.

☆ Raised Roman Catholic and for the most part still practices, particularly when she's with her family and during holy days, but she recognizes that many of the religion's beliefs go against the morals she's built for herself over the years.

☆ Graduated from Palos Verdes High School in 2006, where she participated in a slew of extracurriculars such as Thespian Club and Science National Honors Society and rode shortboard for the surf team all four years. Ellie's genuine interest in academics coupled with her parents' high expectations for their children's studies enabled her to pull pretty stellar grades through her time in school. She was consistently near the top of her class and was just a few grade points shy of being valedictorian of her graduating class. She likes to say she doesn't care anymore, because that was high school and forever ago, but the highly competitive side of her thinks that loss still stings a little bit.

☆ For as long as she can remember, Ellie's post-high school plans had always included attending a prestigious college. With her mother in the medical field, her father in biology and engineering, and her own love for science, she figured she would follow in their footsteps, though she never quite settled on a potential profession. Her possibilities ranged from pediatrician like her mom to nurse to genetic engineer to marine biologist to zoologist to something or other. During her senior year, she applied to several schools, including Stanford (her father's alma mater), Harvard (her mother's alma mater), UCLA (where her parents attended grad school and met), Berkeley, USC, and Boston College. All but Harvard accepted her, but she deferred admissions to each school in favor of pursuing her acting career. She's thought about reapplying to college numerous times but is fairly certain she wouldn't have the time she'd like to commit to it. Instead, she likes to think that she'll return to school when she tires of screen acting or nobody wants to hire her anymore (whichever comes first) while she hopefully continues her voiceover career on the side.

☆ Is extremely competitive and an absolute perfectionist, especially when it comes to her work. She thinks that those traits help immensely, as she's never afraid to fight for a role she wants and constantly tries to make sure every take is her best. However, she also fears they may be her downfall some day. She's been told many a time that she's too hard on herself and stresses out over the littlest things and that she just needs to chill out sometimes. It's still a work in progress.

☆ Although voice acting had essentially been her job since she was 8 years old, Ellie had never really quite considered it as such. She often thought of recording as just something fun she did sometimes, like another extracurricular activity she did a few times a week after school. In high school, many of her friends were working part-time jobs at nearby malls, restaurants, and the like. Of course, she, too, had a job, but she felt like she was missing out on something by not having a "normal" job like her friends. Subsequently, she worked a couple of retail jobs—Claire's for some time in her junior year (despite being freaked out about piercing people's ears) and Hollister in her senior year.

☆ As a native of a community where the ocean was practically her backyard, Ellie is quite fond of beaches. Her dad, an LA native and surf enthusiast, began teaching her how to surf when she was 10 years old. While she doesn't consider herself amazing at the sport by any means, she continues to hit the waves for fun and fitness. Beach running and ocean swimming also rank high on her list of preferred exercise methods.

☆ Because Ellie's brother was diagnosed with celiac disease when he was 3, their mom became almost hyperaware of the food in the Creeley household. This, along with her profession as a pediatrician, encouraged her to urge her family to eat as healthy as possible. Sweets and other junk food became a rarity to Ellie as she grew up, and while she ended up stocking up on many snacks and treats that she missed out on during her first year away from home, she found that she actually sort of preferred her usual eating habits. While she's not one for fad diets, she has grown accustomed to watching what she eats.

☆ Due to her father's allergy to cats, Ellie never had a cat growing up, though she always wanted one. Much to her dismay, she rented a non-pet-friendly apartment during her first few years of living on her own. After purchasing her own house in 2011, she finally adopted a cat named Marzipan. She regularly ponders adopting another and jokes that she would probably become a cat lady if she had the time to take care of a whole clowder, but then she remembers that her brother is a literal cat burglar and routinely tries to steal Marzi when he visits her house.

☆ While her hair is naturally light brown, she loves experimenting with it and has dyed it red, dark brown, and black. She tends to prefer the darker shades and is way too scared to go too light.

☆ Plays piano and guitar and sings, but has no desire to record music unless an acting job calls for it. She began taking piano lessons at age four and continued until she started high school, during which she became more interested in guitar and taught herself how to play, and has been taking voice lessons on and off for almost as long as she's been acting.

☆ Though she likes to think of herself as very social, she doesn't consider herself to be too much of a partier, or at least not a very heavy one. She drinks but most always within her limits, doesn't smoke anything because she's rather neurotic about the quality of her voice, and isn't at all interested in other drugs.

☆ Is commonly labeled a "geek girl" by fans and sometimes the media due to her extensive voiceover work. She'll be the first to admit that she's not too familiar with comic lore, she's almost exclusively only into "girly" or "cute" video games, and most of her geeky interests are decidedly mainstream. Still, she bears the title proudly, mainly because she gets fiercely passionate about the things she geeks out over.
